Success Stories

  • Mr January was nominated by the Cape Regional Chamber as one of the five attendees to attend New Partnership For Africa’s Development (NEPAD) in 2002;
  • It has been awarded on its great work by winning an award as the best organization in Cape Flats, December 2003;
  • Attended and contributed to two Doing Business in Africa Conferences (DBIA) in Sandton, 2004 and University of Cape Town, 2004;
  • The Executive Director of the organization, Mr Mthobeli January was selected in 2004 by University of Cape Town as one of the top five community developers in Western Cape and sponsored to attend a specialized Supporting Emerging Programme in partnership with the University of Pennyslvia;
  • Participated and made inputs into the Southern African Developing Countries (SADC) conference (9 countries) in 2007 on academic and entrepreneurial development being the only youth organisation out of 182 attendees in Southern Africa;
  • Made history in 2009 by welcoming a delegation of foreign Ministry from Netherlands to endorse a learnership programme for Khayelitsha youth in partnership with Supercare, Services Seta and Job Realisation Trust; Infact, a recent visit by Social Development Minister Ms Kholeka Mqulwana to Netherlands in looking at models of reducing unemployment on youth led to her meeting Flexpay (Job Realisation Trust founders) and upon recommendation met Laphumilanga in Western Cape as the best youth development organization which led to the above-mentioned partnership.
  • Won awards of excellence from Khayelitsha Development Forum in 2012 and is an active participant of Global Youth Service Day, the largest community event in the world as well as a member of the Cape Regional Chamber of Commerce and Industry;
  • Mr January currently chairs the Small Business Development Portfolio of the Cape Regional Chamber of Commerce & Industry (2013/2014, 2014/2015)
  • The organization has been given rights by Youth Service America to host annual “Global Youth Service Day Events”, the largest event in the world hosted in over 400 cities thereby assisting in meeting Millenium Development Goals
  • Have assisted 24 matriculants from disadvantaged backgrounds through own fundraising to register at institutions of higher learning in 2015 in partnership with Khayelitsha Community Trust, Khayelitsha Development Forum, Godla & Partners Attorneys, Yes To Life, Aerotechnic (Pty) Ltd, Calamari Fisheries, Engen Garage Khayelitsha and City of Cape Town
