About Us

BREADLINE AFRICA operates a highly successful Container Programme, converting old shipping containers into vital

community structures.
The portable, versatile and secure recycled containers are a lifeline to many struggling communities, where they provide

instant and vital infrastructure.

Since 1993, we have recycled, refurbished and placed more than 175 of these containers in poor communities throughout

Southern Africa.

HOW WE MAKE A DIFFERENCE

As part of our commitment, Breadline Africa strives to break the cycle of poverty in the lives of individuals and communities

in Africa through sustainable, long-term solutions.

We do this in 3 ways.

Our Container Programme
Special campaigns including food parcels and our annual seaside outing
By supporting other grassroots organisations through annual grants

We carefully select projects staffed and run by local communities, with a reasonable chance of long-term sustainability,

that would struggle to find other funding.

Every project that applies for a container or grant is subjected to a rigorous assessment process in which Breadline Africa

establishes how we can benefit the project most effectively. After the container or grant has been allocated,

very careful monitoring of the project ensures that the containers/funds are being properly used.

Help us build a brighter future for Someleze Educare Centre!

Someleze Educare Centre in Khayelitsha, Western Cape are in dire need of our help. This pre-school is a haven for 101 young minds who are eager to learn, grow and achieve their dreams, but their current situation is far from ideal.

Huge celebration as we launch our 1,000th infrastructure facility!

Five years ago, we set a big target – to increase our infrastructure tally of just over 400 to 1,000, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of our founding.

We’ve achieved 90% and now we are aiming for 100%

This month, we achieved an incredible milestone – all thanks to your committed support. On 10 October, we launched our 900th unit at Nobuntu Early Childhood Development and Disability Centre in Atlantis.

Projects

Millions of people in Africa live below the poverty line.

With poverty comes the knock-on effects of : unemployment, hunger, disease, homelessness, violence and despair.

With the right support however, Africa’s problems can be alleviated. There are many specialised community charity projects that are run at ground-level, trying to make a difference.

These charity projects try to establish a level of self-sustainability within the community, thus weaning the community off of the need for welfare. Most of these projects don’t get much exposure and battle to raise funds to keep going. Just a small amount of financial support or a refurbished container is usually all that’s needed to turn a struggling African charity project into a successful one.

Your contribution will fund the many projects that we support which change the lives of people in hundreds of communities within Southern Africa.

Container Programme

One of Breadline Africa’s most successful enterprises has been its provision of renovated shipping containers for various uses. Since 1993, Breadline Africa has provided over 175 containers to poverty-stricken communities across South Africa

Special Campaigns

Each year Breadline Africa sends out special appeals to our supporters to ask for help with food parcels or our annual outing to the sea.

Grassroots Organisations

Breadline Africa is an organisation that acts as a channel of sorts, raising money and then redistributing it to the many groups and individuals who are working so hard to uplift African communities. We want to help Millions of people in Africa who live below the poverty line.
