The purpose of Hope Africa Collective is to invest in sustainable solutions to extreme poverty and injustice through holistic life development.
Our impact areas are Social and Psychosocial Development, Education, Economic Development and Spiritual Formation. Our approach aims to bring transformational change to communities through nurturing healthy relationships in every sphere of the lives of youth aged 18 – 35 who are Not Employed, in formal Education, or in Training (NEET). We develop the social, psychosocial and spiritual aspects and couple this with practical skills development for employability, further study and entrepreneurship. This multifaceted approach holistically develops the potential of youth and equips them to build better lives for themselves, their families and their communities. We also partner with local churches and offer theological education, leadership gatherings and discipleship training for ongoing, sustainable growth in the lives of the youth. We have been actively engaged in these activities since 2013 in the greater Lower Crossroads, Philippi area.
To fund these development initiatives, we not only look to external funding but we generate income through two of our own social enterprises: The Printery and AfriCube Box Solutions. Currently The Printery is our main source of self-generated income and 100% of its profits goes to support our projects.
Mission: The complex nature of poverty requires a multifaceted approach. We exist to invest in the lives of youth through holistic personal and skills development thereby equipping them to build better lives for themselves, their families and their communities. As committed and passionate people grow in their own capacity - in their skills, knowledge and understanding - widespread community transformation is made possible. We empower these young people to spark and sustain change in their communities.
Vision: It is our vision that the youth of Philippi East and surrounding areas in Cape Town are empowered and equipped with the necessary workplace-readiness skills and have unlimited access to employment, study and entrepreneurship opportunities. They are aware of their God-given self-worth and agency and they are alive to possibility and opportunity for personal and professional growth. Further, our vision pictures these youth as active, productive members of our society who care for their families and the families of others within the community.
Impact Statement: Hope Africa Collective seeks to uplift the community, addressing four primary impact areas: Education, Economic Development, Life Development, and Spiritual Formation. Our aim is to integrate sustainable solutions into the root causes of poverty and injustice. The success of Hope Africa Collective depends on each impact area’s ability to incorporate this holistic view while engaging the community in culturally relevant ways.
IF... NEET (Not Employed or in Education or Training) youth living in extreme multidimensional poverty are given an opportunity to heal from their trauma and realise their innate dignity and potential...
AND... are empowered with workplace readiness and entrepreneurial mindsets and skills...
THEN... they are optimally positioned to engage with the world of further education, employment, and entrepreneurship.
