Celebrating Transformed Lives

Author: Common Good

Common Good is a developmental organisation that is proving that transformation is possible within the current context of South Africa.

At Common Good, we focus on the critical life stages of early life, education, and employment because interventions at these points in a person's life has a significant impact on setting them up for future flourishing and reaching their full potential.

As a key stakeholder and donor of our work, we are thrilled

to share our Annual Report detailing the impact made in 2023.

HERE'S A ROUND UP OF

What we are celebrating

in each of our Initiatives.

Sikunye is 5!
In 2017 we conducted rigorous research asking the question, what role can the local church play in impacting the First Thousand Days of a child’s life? In 2018 our findings were published. Finally, in 2019 and based on our findings, Sikunye, our early life initiative, was officially launched. We can’t summarise five years in one mailer so should you wish to go deeper you can get details of major milestones in our story, key stats and numbers, stories, and quotes from churches and families by reading our 5-year report.

It’s been a busy school year for our Education team who recently shared the exciting news that Forest Village Leadership Academy (FVLA) in Eerste River has joined our network of collaboration schools. If you missed our last Education themed mailer, you can catch up below.

Through our employment initiative, we have trained 32 replication partners and 11 have gone on to train 312 Job Journey graduates. Our career support team, also hosted 14 Grade 11 pupils from Silikamva High, in an intensive 6-day Career Readiness course giving them each the hard and soft skills required to seek and sustain meaningful employment.

STORY OF IMPACT

Ashleigh Davids

After completing her LLB degree, Ashleigh Davids eagerly joined Common Good's Job Journey work readiness course to better prepare for the job market. We were thrilled to hear that after graduating from Job Journey in March, she was hired as a legal assistant. Ashleigh hopes to "experience continuous growth and become 1% better every day," with a passion for advocating for marginalized groups. We wish her all the best in her future endeavors!
