In South Africa, it is estimated that out of the 23 258 primary and high schools in 2022, around 20% of schools had internet connections for teachers and learners, while 80% did not. This means that quintile 1-3 learners are at an early and significant disadvantage, in a digitally driven economy. As the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) advances, the call to bridge the digital divide grows louder.
MTN South Africa, together with the Department of Basic Education (DBE) and Department of Communications and Digital Technologies (DCDT) today announced the launch of the "Connecting Every Child" programme, calling on South Africans to join the drive to donate 30 000 devices to bring connectivity and the promise of a brighter future to children in schools across the country.
Connecting Every Child seeks to drive device donations to underserved schools, thereby enhancing access to education and digital resources. It is a goal that can only be achieved through significant efforts from both the public and private sectors and forgood invites you to get involved.
Make your contribution through forgood, by:
• Donating digital devices i.e. laptops and tablets.
• Pledging and donating money towards the programme.
MTN has donated 2 000 devices to kick off the programme.
Addressing the learners at the launch, MTN SA CEO, Charles Molapisi said, “You are the future of South Africa. With devices, you have the keys to unlock a world of knowledge, resources, and opportunities that can help you shape your destiny and contribute to the progress of our nation. The future is indeed in your hands.”
