FoodForward SA #KZNFloodRelief

Author: FoodForward SA

The torrential rains in KwaZulu-Natal over the past 2 weeks saw nearly 500 people lose their lives, more than 13 000 homes destroyed by the raging floods, and billions of Rands in damage to infrastructure.

FoodForward SA is supporting affected communities with food, water, and hygiene products. Of the 26 community halls providing shelter for displaced families, we are reaching 15 of these sites, to provide cooked meals daily in Ntuzuma, Phoenix, Umlazi, Inanda, Tongaat, Waterloo, and Pinetown.

Despite weather challenges and limited road access, our Durban team has been working around the clock, including the Easter long weekend, making sure that vulnerable people are provided a warm meal. The desperation in KZN is heart-breaking. We will need to provide support for at least the next few weeks, until homes are rebuilt and infrastructure restored, and business re-open.

Thank you to our generous donors and partners - Massmart, Tiger Brands, Pick n Pay, Feed the Nation Foundation, Food Lovers Market, Pepsico, Lactalis SA, RCL Foods, The Do More Foundation, Engen, FNB, Chep, Phillip Morris International, Fortress Reit, Coronation, Astron Energy, Industrial Development Corporation of SA, and the Global Foodbanking Network for responding to our call to action.
