Injongo Project in Philippi opens newly refurbished Educare Centre
Author: riaan@wecanchange.co.zaInvesting in ECD is at the core of Rotary Claremont and the Lewis Group. The Injongo Project focuses on providing the communities of Philippi and Masiphumelele with functioning ECD centres, to ensure a high quality of educational support for children.
The Injongo project boasts many holistic interventions such as extensive teacher training, partially upgrading of existing facilities, and daily mentoring for quality assurance to support 61 centres.
To date, and with significant financial support from corporate sponsor, the Lewis Group, Rotary Claremont have fully upgraded 15 centres, with a total investment of R22 million.
Included in the upgrades to Christian Church ECD, were renovations to the kitchen, new classrooms, new ablution facilities, new walkways, a new jungle gym area with new Astroturf and upgrades to the security of the centre.
The Lewis Group has been the longstanding sponsorship partner to the Injongo project and have provided their support for 7 years. “It is extremely important to us to focus on the communities that support us as a company; this project fits solidly within this objective,” says Les Davies, Director at the Lewis. “We are committed to the children and their education, because this country will not succeed without educating our children; we are pleased to be a small part of this road.”
