KMA is on a mission to help children in SA become the most resilient, innovative & confident citizen

Author: Kronendal Music Academy

You know you love your job when you can't wait to get back to work after the holidays! 2022 eased into gear with a renewed focus on how we can best serve each and every child holistically.

With the many increased challenges South Africa - and the world - faces now, we have reached a make or break point in the care of our young people. It is now critically important that we give every possible attention to developing children to be the most resilient, innovative and confident citizens of the future that they can possibly be. KMA is on a mission to do just that.

We held our first ever "School Assembly" in our back garden in January! It was the perfect opportunity to re-visit our values and ask the children what they thought we could do better and how we could have more fun at KMA

Leighton Tillings entered his second year at UCT Jazz School - we are so proud of him! And his teacher at UCT this year, Matt Belyeu, is the very same person who taught him at KMA 10 years ago! Now there's a full circle for you (bottom Left)

We welcomed our first ever in-house Social Worker to the KMA Family this year. Marchané Janeke has already started weaving her colours into our tapestry and we are so excited about the many support programmes she will be running with us (bottom Right)

Marchané jumped into action with a training weekend for our Peer Mentors, to ready them for 9 months of caring, kindness, leadership, empathy and introspection. (Not sure how much training went on during what looked like a super duper fun weekend!) Good Luck Hazel, Simanyene, Zoe, Brian, Laich and Diela... the future is in good hands with youngsters like you in the wings.

Children learn how things fit together through play. It allows them to use their senses and encourages exploration and curiosity, and these skills are the foundation of intellectual development and cognitive processing.

Miss Juliet introduced building characterisation in music through playing dress-up and creating stories. Music lessons teach a myriad of skills, including inquisitiveness, process acumen, initiative and soliciting assistance.

Young Hazel was determined to get into a better High School in 2022 and wrote an impassioned letter to the principal of Camps Bay High. With Hazel's hard work and consistent tutoring from our Zero Dropout team at KMA he marks improved and she will be putting on that Camps Bay High blazer from second term! Well done Hazel!

KMA has grown its schoolwork assistance programme by adding two new volunteers this year to help our children with literacy and reading.

Our dear old van has served us so well these past 8 years but, as we increase in numbers and programmes at KMA, we are urgently needing a second vehicle to help us transport our children safely and get them to their lessons on time.Did you know that we have 8 feeder schools in Hout Bay no

Simple, small changes can make the world of difference to efficient operations, but so often more important needs take precedence... One of those small changes that will make a massive difference is a music bag for every child. KMA is seeking donations of only R80/child to purchase a bag like this one. Can you help?

Each term we offer an opportunity for our pupils to perform and this term we held one of our bi-annual Pupil Soiree's in the Iziko Lobomi Centre in Imizamo Yethu. Noreaagaa's piece was called "In the pocket" and before he started playing he remarked, "I still don't know what's in the pocket!"
