SA Children's Home

Author: SA Children's Home/SA Kinderhuis

The Home is currently at its full capacity and with the hard work and persistence of our Social Worker, 13 children were quickly placed in local schools and 3 seniors have received their first ID’s and bank cards; and 1 senior has passed her Learners Lice

We've had some wonderful achievements in the 2nd term at SA Children’s Home. From the academic results received to date with three of our High School learners achieving excellent results: 6 A’s (Gr 8), 5 A’s (Gr 10) & 4 A’s (Gr 12)! In addition to this we also have a Gr7 boy who is in the 1st Rugby team and one of our Gr9 learners played a lead role in her school play at the Baxter Theatre! We are so proud!!

Our seniors have enjoyed cooking healthy meals on Wednesday evenings and their cooking skills are improving every week. Thank you to the donors who have supported this initiative!

With the help of our Family Reunification Social Worker, some children can spend time with their families over the holiday and each family also received food parcels.

The children all received brand new, warm winter pyjamas which were donated by Wynberg Boy’s High School and the Youth Day long-weekend was kicked off with a fun pyjama party, hosted by the Alive Foundation.

Human Rights Day was celebrated with a braai, kindly sponsored by one of our individual supporters and we celebrated Youth Day with an AMAZING RACE! The kids had a great time and seeing their smiley faces when each group received their prize was truly heart-warming. Thank you so much to all our sponsors: Table Mountain Aerial Cableway, Mozambik V&A Waterfront, Sabio Cape Town, Just Teepee Hiring, Grey Daisy, Evangelical Lutheran Church Cape Town and TVET SA, who helped to make the Amazing Race a success! Last, but certainly not least, thank you to all of our AMAZING childcare workers, who organised the event and made wonderful memories with our children.

Mandela Day was filled with excitement! Our children committed their 67 minutes to deliver donations to the Friends of Valkenberg Trust; and providing 214 cups of warm soup for the homeless with our catering company Feedem.

There were several amazing organisations, such as Publicis Groupe Africa, Food & Trees for Africa, FTI Consulting, Medway Marketing, G7 Renewable Energies, Sir Juice and Hollard Insurance, who spoiled our children with personal care packages, beautiful trees planted in our garden, sponsored water bottles & t-shirts. Three of our lounges were painted and we also received delicious lunch packs!

We were treated with a fabulous Mandela Day party, hosted by TVET in collaboration

with the famous Giggling Gourmet chef Jenny Morris, DJ Alrick Sangster and B2D Dance Studio. Refreshments, party packs, cupcakes, new t-shirts and prizes were kindly sponsored for this event by Shel Booyzen, Targeted Tutoring, South Beach Camps Bay Boutique Hotel, Cellars Hohenhort Hotel and TFG Prestige Caledon.

Thank you from the bottom of our grateful hearts to all the volunteers and sponsors for making our 44 children feel loved, as you celebrated Mandela Day 20
